no modest mouse for me.

Sometimes living in Philly is frustrating.

Modest Mouse is playing here soon.

But the show sold out before I could get tickets.

Out of 3 cities nationwide that sold out [Seattle and Boise? being the other two]...I happen to live in one of them.

Maybe I can scalp a ticket...

Or pay $190 on ebay for 2 tix, which are general admission, and only actually cost $75. Boo hiss to these people trying to rip me off!

drowning my sorrows in festive sugar

My driver's side front window is down and won't go back up. My good intentions of working out when I got home are gone, and instead I am stressed about my car, and eating a bag of jelly beans. The kitties are happy because I threw a blue one [the color I am not eating] on the floor for them to play with. I think today was the worst day since the strike started, and I was so happy to drive around with my windows down after school, and leave my worries behind. Ah well. There is always tomorrow...

we did aerobics for an hour
drove to the city
received a dear sweet person off the train
on the way home consumed checkers fries and a banana shake
(totally undoing the effects of the aforementioned workout)
hung out a little at my place

this is when the trouble began.

it was after midnight when she said
'jacuzzi time!' with a gleam in her eyes and a smile
knowing i would not say no
so we put on the suits and piled into cars
(after de-icing mine for 20 minutes)
and drove to her house
where we wrapped in towels
jumped into the hot tub
and sat there teeth chattering

while the thermometer mocked us.

the hot tub was not hot
it was a lukewarm tub
with 3 shivering giggling crazy girls
who didnt want to get out for fear of frostbite
but didnt want to stay in for the same fear
eventually we ran into the house one at a time
looking like we were on fire
steaming in our wet suits with too much skin exposed
for this march 7th at 1 am

in the 27 degree weather.

losing

Michelle left for a new job.

Ashlee and Fla moved to New Orleans, then Phoenix.

I left Candy, but then she followed suit.

Kim moved to California.

KT moved to South Carolina.

Jess moved to Virginia.

Mark and Elise are leaving for Lousiville at the end of May.

Mel and Justin are leaving for Virginia this summer.

Others, whether physically close or not, have become emotionally distant.

I feel like I have lost too many people, or will very soon.

I pray that I will gain some, before I drown in this flood of loss.

Sick.

"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more--that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut--my eyes are blue--
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke--
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is. . .Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

*happy sigh*

Happy snow day to me! And Andrew. Who is still sleeping although it''s almost noon. No worries, I have been up since 8, and have read 2 books already. I'm a sloth, so I think now I'll get up and move around somehow. After I finish typing, that is. Last night I awoke a few times to the sound of freezing rain...then I had dreams that it was warm enough for plain rain, and the snow got washed away, and I had to go to school. My nightmares were soon dissolved. Who knew I would be so happy to receive a phone call at 5 am?

first the weed, now this.

Went to North East for the weekend, and throroughly enjoyed the 2 feet of snow.

Dad and I went to the beach:

Last night I was playing Family Fued with [surprise] my family. The question was "Name something a police office dresses up as when he goes undercover." So I write down 'civilian' and turn to my mom to ask what she thinks, when she grabs the marker and board from my hand, and quickly writes:
pimp / woman / bum / junkie.
[When she wrote the 'w' for 'woman' I definitely thought she was writing 'whore' after what she has just written!!!]
Needless to say, I cracked up, and so did she, and I asked if she's been watching 'COPS' lately.

Jenni and dad thought it was hilarious too.

I think it was definitely better than the last time we were together, when we returned to our hotel at 1 am on New Years Day and there were 20 guys in the hallway...so we went into our room...and it stunk. [So did the hall.] I said 'wow, that's a lot of weed.' And my mom proceeded to call the front desk and say 'it smells like weed in our room.'

When we started laughing about that again last night, and we asked how mom even knows what that smell is, she said at concerts she has smelled it. Apparently she's been to some wild concerts.

6 weird things...

crystal tagged me and i’m supposed to list 6 weird things about myself so here it goes…

1. i don't like shoes. not real shoes. let me explain...i'm crazy for flip flops/sandals and wear nothing else when it's warm enough. i love the fact that a friend of mine got me a pair for christmas this year. perfect. so besides my flip flop collection...almost all of my other shoes are slip ons. most don't have a back to them, and even if they do, i can still slip them on. this includes sneakers.

2. i read an average of 1.5 books a week. sure, there are some weeks where i don't read at all...but then other weeks that i read 3-4 books. i suppose i have chosen the right profession, where i am currently in charge of over 13,000 books everyday!

3. i'm currently listening to the new justin timberlake cd on tunes. for this, i really have no explanation.

4. tonight i drove through starbucks. after receiving my tall, nonfat chai, i lovingly held it in my hand and said out loud ' i love you.' then i laughed at myself.

5. one night i had a dream that the whole earth flooded. there was nothing but water as far as the eye could see. only myself and 2 other people survived. the next day...hurricane katirna hit.

6. i don't love the beach...at least not in the summer. with my nearly transparent skin, i burn in about 20 minutes. my husband is also an non-beach person. [in fact, he is probably more anti-beach.] however, where did we go on our honeymoon? the bahamas. did we go the beach when we were there? nope. figure that one out. [we did walk across a beach once to go snorkeling, but i don't think that counts.]

thoughts

It snowed today and I missed it. How sad!

Tomorrow I'm going to the dr...I'm afraid I may have to start living gluten free...but I think it will take awhile to prove this. So a month or two of dr. visits and testing may be coming up.

I'm so happy to have Monday off!!! And to go to a movie with a new friend...read a book...and relax.

that's it, I'm moving to Canada.

sigh.

snow, again.

I have a fun idea...when we DO finally have a snowstorm...I just might take the day off, and spend the day outside, enjoying the snow through my camera lens.

snow = love

I can't honestly remember the last time it snowed. It's making me crazy. Since my old computer died a few months ago, I can't search through pictures to research the last snow fall, at least the last one I documented. I have spent way too much time on flickr looking jealously at snow photos. I miss the good old days, where snow began in October and lasted until Easter. Global warming, you can kiss my ass.

winter, you can come out now!

it's 69 degrees outside right now.
i am sitting here with the windown open, enjoying the breeze.
it's lovely.

but it also freaks me out.

it's JANUARY for crying out loud!
perhaps this would make sense if i lived in south carolina like my sis. or in nashville like some old friends.
however
i have specifically AVOIDED the south
so that i could ENJOY the cold weather!

i want snow.
i need snow.
if we don't get some snow soon...i am going to do something drastic.

so true.

So this is the new year.
And i don't feel any different.
The clanking of crystal
Explosions off in the distance.

So this is the new year
And I have no resolutions
For self assigned penance
For problems with easy solutions

So everybody put your best suit or dress on
Let's make believe that we are wealthy for just this once
Lighting firecrackers off on the front lawn
As thirty dialogs bleed into one

I wish the world was flat like the old days
Then i could travel just by folding a map
No more airplanes, or speed trains, or freeways
There'd be no distance that could hold us back.
